Beginning in Cable, Wisconsin, the course travels through rolling woodlands around Lake Owen. Runners continue on into the Chequamegon National Forest meandering past forest lakes and northward into the forest highlands. The course is generally rolling with a few more challenging hills. Most of the route is paved or gravel roadway with the exception of the tri-county limestone corridor and a 7-mile section of Forest Service trail. The race then follows the Chequamegon Bay shore and finishes inside the Ashland Bay Area Civic Center, 320 4th Ave West.
